An ATS (Applicant Tracking System) is software recruiters use to scan, store, and rank resumes before a human ever opens them. Most large companies use one, and a resume that an ATS can't parse correctly often never reaches a recruiter — regardless of how qualified the candidate is.
What ATS parsers struggle with: text inside images or graphics, content in tables used purely for layout, headers/footers (some parsers skip them entirely), unusual fonts, and icon-only section labels with no text equivalent.
What works reliably: standard section headings ("Experience", "Education", "Skills"), reverse-chronological dates, plain bullet points, and keywords pulled directly from the job description's required skills and responsibilities.
Every template here is built from real text in a standard reading order — no text-in-image tricks, no layout tables. Sidebar-style templates (Tech, Marketing, Sales, HR) look more visually distinct but place contact/skills information in a side column; for roles where you suspect a stricter older ATS will be used, the single-column templates (Finance, Consulting, Government, Legal) are the safest choice.
