New Tax Regime
π New Tax Regime Calculator
The New Tax Regime is now the default for Indian taxpayers β lower slab rates but almost no deductions. This calculates your exact tax payable including the standard deduction and the Section 87A rebate.
Standard Deduction: βΉ75,000
0β3L: 0% 3β7L: 5% 7β10L: 10% 10β12L: 15% 12β15L: 20% 15L+: 30%
+4% Health & Education Cess Sec 87A: zero tax if taxable income β€ βΉ7L
The slabs apply progressively β only the income within each band is taxed at that band's rate, not your entire income at the highest rate you reach.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is the New Regime automatically applied?
Yes β it's the default regime since FY 2023-24. Salaried taxpayers who prefer the Old Regime (to claim HRA, 80C, etc.) need to explicitly opt in each year.
What is the Section 87A rebate?
If your taxable income after the standard deduction is βΉ7 lakh or below, the rebate brings your tax liability to zero under the New Regime β effectively a full tax waiver up to that threshold.
Can I claim HRA or 80C under the New Regime?
Almost no exemptions or deductions are available under the New Regime β that's the trade-off for its lower rates. The standard deduction is one of the few exceptions still allowed.
